Psalm 10:2-6
2
In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak,
who are caught in the schemes he devises.
3
He boasts about the cravings of his heart;
he blesses the greedy and reviles the Lord.
4
In his pride the wicked man does not seek him;
in all his thoughts there is no room for God.
5
His ways are always prosperous;
your laws are rejected by[b] him;
he sneers at all his enemies.
6
He says to himself, “Nothing will ever shake me.”
He swears, “No one will ever do me harm.”
Last Thursday morning, I was reading Psalm 10, and I start reading it thinking, well, I'm not really having to deal with any times of trouble or wicked men right now, nor do I feel like God is hidden or far away. Currently, I feel very blessed by the opportunities He's given me...so I was just reading to get it done.
Then like tripping over a huge tree root in the woods, I hit verse 4 (bolded above).
I tend to have these "never-ending" To Do lists going in my head, all the time. Brian says he doesn't ever want to be inside my mind with all my crazy to do lists and all the things I think about.
Well I think that fact is what made verse 4 stand out so much. I'm confident there are times that due to the busy-ness of my mind, I'm pushing God out. I make my plans and we definitely stay busy, but at what costs?
I never would've labeled myself as wicked, but I do know I'm prideful. However, Psalm 10:4 just made me stop and think. When I'm not making time for God and His plans because all my thoughts are pushing Him out, I'm really just a wicked person pushing God out because of all my thoughts and schemes.
Often times God has to remind me the I'm being prideful with all my To Do lists and plans. I'm only thinking about me or my family and not Him.
I have to stop and focus on Him before I get tripped up and fall on my face because I've ignored His ways and plans.
I need to work on taking back the space in my head and in my thoughts for the Lord. My never ending To Do lists should first include God or they are worthless and futile.
Isaiah 55:8-10
New International Version (NIV)
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
